The objective of the O'Fallon United Community Music School is to create a structure in which quality educational opportunities in instrumental and choral music continue to be available for 5th - 12th grade students in OCCSD #90 and OTHSD #203. The O'Fallon United Community Music School will be under the management of the City of O'Fallon Parks & Recreation Department.
Dr. Melissa Gustafson-Hinds, Director of Bands at OTHS is the leader of the music school. Other teachers from OTHS include Mark Donahue, Collin Galvin, Zachary Stegman and Brian O'Donnell. All of the teachers are approved, or will be approved, by District 203 School Board to serve as adjunct music staff. This will help combine the teaching talents of the District 203 staff throughout our largest feeder system. We are in hopes that this will ensure a tiered music curriculum from grades 5-12, which will be focused on the Illinois Learning Standards and the National Music Standards of NAfME, and organized under the Comprehensive Musicianship style of learning.
This program will be funded through student fees and outside donations. We are in hopes that this temporary solution will provide an excellent music education (instrumental and vocal) for the students of District 90 and also be able to bridge curriculum leading up to Music Program at O'Fallon Township High School - District 203.
