Below you will find a websites that are helpful for the topics that we will be discussing in class this year. The following topics will be covered in the order that they are listed on the page. Feel free to explore any topic at any time. I’ll also be giving away team point to any student that can find additional websites that can be added to the topics listed. You can pick up a website evaluation sheet in the student center at the front of class or download one by clicking here.
Scientific Method Animation of the scientific method - Animation from Glenco
Cell Parts and Discovery Cells Alive - View a plant and animal cells and learn about their different parts. You can even compare different types of cells in the Cell Gallery. Animated Cell– This website shows pictures of animal cells and give information about what each organelle. Biology 4 Kids - This site gives you a tour of the major organelles of a cell and their jobs. There is a quiz at the end too! You will need to be able to identify all the organelle and their functions on our test over cells! So study up!
Osmosis and Diffusion Diffusion Animation– This is a short illustration of how diffusion happens. How Molecules Move – An animation of how molecules move in a liquid. Shows molecules are always moving from high to low concentration.
Cell Reproduction A Diagram of Mitosis - Just a picture and a short explanation, but it’s important that you understand it anyway! Mitois Animation – This sites shows a computer animation explaining how 1 cell divides to create two cell. Real Cell’s dividing – Watch as cells go through each of the steps of mitosis. These images were shot with a high resolution microscope camera so they are pretty cool! Mitosis of an Onion Root Tip – This site explores the different phases of mitosis and gives you a better idea how much time cells spend in each phase. DNA and Genetics DNAi – A website that shares a great deal of information about the structure of DNA and the process and people who helped to discover it. Be sure you look for interviews with the scientists and click the “put it together” tab in each section to use the interactive part of the website.
